As we kiss the year 2013 goodbye and welcome 2014 with open arms i thought a post about my 2013 favourites would be appropriate - summing it all up. Before i begin my rant about various beauty products i thought i would give a shout out to the youtube channels and blogs i have been obsessed with for the past twelve months.
Favourite Youtuber 2013 - Meghan Rosette
Meghan Rosette is your best friend on youtube - she is the girl who sits down, acne cream on, no makeup, hair in a bun and wearing her old oversized band tshirt and leggings, and talks shitty dates and her favourite mascaras. She is like an actual twenty year old who just happens to have a fucking cool job and lives in LA. This gem of a youtuber has only been introduced to me recently but i have already fallen head over heels in love with this girl Meghan Rosette is (in my opinion) the best and most honest youtube gurus there is at the moment as well as being an extremely funny and interesting vlogger. Meghan aces all things beauty, fashion and lifestyle wonderfully, so the fact that she is such a bubbly and charismatic girl is simply the youtuber cherry on top. I cannot recommend her channels enough (click here for her vlog channel - her vlogmas was addicting. I have seen it multiple times.. No shame) so just take my word for it and check her out here. Girl crush rant over and out.
Favourite Beauty Youtuber 2013 - Tanya Burr
Tanya Burr is perhaps one of the most famous youtubers there is at the moment, especially in the category of beauty gurus. This beautiful brit carries herself in the most exquisite way in everything she does, which is why i always have and continue to adore her. Tanya was one of, it not the first, you tuber i watched when using tutorials and it is because of her that i am an utter youtube addict - thanks gurl. I trust her reviews and opinions with all my heart and i base a large percentage of my makeup and beauty purchases based on her recommendations, therefore making her my pick for my favourite beauty youtuber of 2013. Tanya Burr is a guru who truly knows her skill inside and out - check her out here for anything beauty.
Favourite Fashion Youtuber 2013 - Jenn Im
Like Meghan Rosette, Jen Im is another you tuber i stumbled across in the past year and have since then become completely obsessed with. Jenn Im, also known as Clothes Encounters, is a beauty/fashion guru who truly has captured the art of look book videos. She does feature some makeup related content on her channel, but in my opinion her fashion/style videos are simply amazing. Jenn has such a simplistic yet unique and occasionally quirky taste in fashion and is typically the person i look to when i am at a loss of outfit inspiration. She is also a youtuber that has a certain kind of confidence in her taste and style that i really admire. Plus, her editing is just stunning. There is not one bad thing i can say about her - check her out here for yourself and enjoy! Click here to check out her blog - again, it does not disappoint.
Favourite Vlogger 2013 - Zoe Sugg (Zoella)
With vlogmas slowly dwindling down (extreme sad face) I have been on the look out for some new vloggers to give me my vlog fix. I have indeed found some new vloggers but none of them compare to the gem that is Zoe Sugg - or as most of the world knows her, Zoella. Zoe is a youtuber who just keeps getting better in all aspects. With her bubbly personality and interesting life full of travel, events, red carpets and the adorable gang of british youtubers that has formed over the past couple of years - she is the perfect vlogger. When it comes to describing vlogs to non-youtube dorks i tend to sound either like a major stalker or a full time creep - but there is just something really relaxing and interesting about getting a look into other peoples lives that are way different than your own. A-d-d-i-c-t-i-v-e. Nuff said. Zoella can be found these three places - main channel, vlog channel and her blog. All that goodness.
Favourite Blogger 2013 - Beautycrush
Sammi from Beautycrush is a blogger/youtuber who i have admired and at times envied for the longest time because of her unique, daring and interesting taste in fashion (plus - she has the most amazing, feminine and pretty tattoos that i could ever pull off but i really wish i could, so jealous). What i really like about Sammi is that she features a mixture of high end as well as affordable items, meaning that students like myself can actually buy some of the things we see and like, as opposed to sighing and adding them to a I-Will-One-Day-Buy-This-Fabulous-Bag folder (we all have one of those, don't deny it). When it comes to the blog itself it is clean, simple and full of high quality content, whether it is her reviews or her amazing photos. Check out the blog here and see for yourself!
Now comes the beauty favourites of 2013 - i am going to keep it sweet, short and to the point and only talk about a handful of my holy grail items.
Favourite Lipstick - MAC Brave
2013 was the year that i decided to make the mature purchase of an "everyday" lipstick. Personally, i have never been the person to wear lipstick on a daily basis, until i bought Brave by MAC Cosmetics. Its perfect. With a matte finish, incredible pigmentation and the perfect tone to suit pretty much any occasion, Brave is my top choice for lipsticks of 2013. A friend of mine blessed me with an introduction to one of my must have lip products to any lipstick - the lip primer MAC sells is absolutely amazing and truly gives a long lasting staying power. Let me be an example of prove it - thanks to this lovely primer, my red lip survived an entire christmas dinner, drinks and all. One thing that turns many people away from MAC, especially us students, is the price range, but when it comes to their lip products, you are really getting your moneys worth. Plus, I am a firm believer that there just are some beauty products that need to be splurged every once in a while, which includes lipsticks. Also, how did it take me so long to realise that MAC lipsticks smell really good? Is it just me?
Favourite Mascara - Benefit They're Real
This is a product which basically all bloggers/youtubers/makeup lovers/the worlds population have agreed is the best mascara in the world. I don't think i have heard or read a single negative review about Benefit's They're Real mascara and I will continue to sing its praises until the day it is no longer sold. Again, the price of it could be considered a little much in some cases but this mascara is just so amazing that I will gladly spend the money. It lasts a while, gives an amazing result and doesn't require too much product to have a great effect. In my opinion, the thing that makes this mascara so much better than other ones is the shape and structure of the wand - it reaches and applies product to every single lash, making your natural lashes look fake in the best way possible. Curl your lashes, apply one or two coats on the top and bottom and boom! Your eyes have never looked better.
Favourite Concealer - Bourjois Healthy Mix
This is the first Bourjois product i have ever had the pleasure of trying and i can safely say that it is the beginning of a beautiful friendship. When i first bought this concealer, the size of the product kind of scared me as i thought it would run out in no time. That was months and months ago and it continues to give me the best coverage i have seen in any concealer. With just a tiny amount, this concealer covers my blemishes and dark circles like a dream with an incredibly light finish. The only down side about this product is that Bourjois isn't available everywhere, however, it can be purchased online! Hallelujah.
Favourite Foundation - L'Oreal Nude Magique eau de Teint
Finally, is my favourite foundation. Personally, finding a perfect foundation is like finding the perfect pair of jeans... close to impossible! However, after hearing a bunch of hype around the L'Oreal Nude Magique foundation, i decided to give it a chance and thank god i did. Its the perfect foundation. With a light finish, feeling like you are wearing close to nothing on your face, this foundation provides a wonderful coverage. There is only one problem - applying it can at times be a little bit messy and you have to work with the product quickly once it has been applied as it dries rather quickly. The negative aside, this is an affordable and effective foundation that i am madly in love with.
Personally, my year has been one with ups and downs but ending on a high note with a wonderful family holiday and surrounded by the most amazing people in both England and Denmark. Bring on 2014!
Much love,
Caroline x
